London never ceases to amaze with its mix of centuries-old history and modern-day vibrance. From iconic landmarks like Big Ben and Tower Bridge to hidden gems tucked in Notting Hill and Covent Garden, this city offers endless discoveries. In this guide, I’ll share some of my favourite hidden gems and must-see spots that make London such an unforgettable destination—whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveller.

Me and my sister stayed at the The Laslett - a boutique hotel in Notting Hill. The Laslett was a perfect base for our trip. Despite the compact room size, the design was sleek and modern, featuring a cosy bar and library area. The hotel’s proximity to Portobello Road and Ladbroke Grove made it an ideal spot for exploring Notting Hill.

The first night we had dinner at The Ivy Kensington Brasserie on Kensington High Street, which is around the corner from Notting Hill, read my full review here.

The second night we had an early dinner at a restaurant in Covent Garden, before going to see to Les Misérables - one of my favourite musicals. Going to see a musical should definitely be on your to-do list when visiting London. I've seen Mamma Mia!, Billy Elliot, We will rock you and Les Misérables and they've all been amazing.

Tip!

  • Musicals in London: If you're planning to catch a show, it’s a good idea to book tickets in advance, especially for popular shows like Les Misérables. Try to catch a matinee for a more relaxed experience, and check out londontheatre.co.uk for discounted tickets.

We also visited the Victoria and Albert museum in South Kensington. The V&A Museum is an absolute gem for art and design lovers. As soon as you walk in, you’re surrounded by an eclectic mix of exhibits, from fashion and textiles to sculpture and photography. With its mix of the quirky and the classic, the V&A is one of those places where you can easily lose track of time exploring all the cool stuff on display.

Tip!

  • V&A Museum: The V&A Museum is free to enter, but special exhibitions may have a fee. Be sure to download a map or check the schedule of events to make the most of your visit.

After exploring the galleries, the V&A’s outdoor café is the perfect spot to take a break. Tucked away in a charming courtyard, it’s a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The café offers a selection of delicious pastries, sandwiches, and coffee, making it a great place to refuel. We loved sitting outside, surrounded by beautiful architecture, with the sounds of the city fading into the background. It’s a lovely spot to relax, reflect on the exhibits, and soak up the unique atmosphere of the museum.

We then had dinner at Ave Mario, a trendy spot owned by the Big Mamma Group. We loved Ave Marion, the atmosphere was vibrant, with bold, eclectic decor that mirrors the playful menu. The truffle pasta was rich and decadent—exactly what you’d hope for when ordering anything with truffle. My sister’s truffle pizza was just as indulgent. If you're a fan of Italian cuisine, this is a must-visit in Covent Garden.

London is a city that has a bit of everything, from historic landmarks and museums to lively markets and diverse food scenes. It’s a place where every street has a story, and there’s always something new to explore. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, London always has something fresh to offer, making it a destination worth returning to time and again.
