Kos is one of those islands that seems to have it all—ancient history, stunning beaches, and a laid-back vibe that makes you want to stay forever. Whether you're a history buff eager to explore ancient ruins, a beach lover looking for crystal-clear waters, or someone who just wants to soak up the Greek island lifestyle, Kos has something for you. From the lively town center with its buzzing cafes and tavernas to the quieter, off-the-beaten-path spots where you can unwind in peace, this island offers a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
Kos is a gorgeous island, with the only downside (as a family with young kids) that it's not super easy to get to. We flew to Athens and then had to get another short flight to Kos. Our flight to Kos was delayed and Athens airport is one of the more chaotic airports I've been to.

We spent one day visiting Zia, a small village nestled in the hills of Kos. This idyllic town offers a charming escape from the island’s more tourist-heavy spots. Known for its traditional whitewashed houses and narrow streets, Zia provides a taste of authentic Greek life. The village is famous for its stunning sunsets, with panoramic views stretching out over the island and the Aegean Sea. It's a peaceful spot that highlights the natural beauty and culture of Kos.
We also visited Kos town, which very much felt like an outdoor musuem. You can walk around the ruins of ancient temples and really get a feel for what life used to be like on the island.
Another must do is visiting a winery. We visited the gorgeous Hatziemmanouil winery. This family-owned winery is known for its traditional approach to winemaking, using locally grown grapes to produce a range of quality wines. You can tour the winery to see the production process and learn about the history and techniques behind their wines. The tasting room provides an opportunity to sample their various vintages while enjoying views of the surrounding vineyards. It’s a great way to explore the local wine culture.
