Nestled in the vibrant heart of Seminyak, Desa Potato Head isn’t your average Bali stay—it’s an experience. Known worldwide for its beachfront views, its iconic circular pool, and the buzzing Potato Head Beach Club, this resort elevates the idea of eco-friendly luxury. My recent stay at Desa Potato Head was unforgettable, not only for its stunning setting but for its thoughtful design that champions sustainability.

First Impressions: A Design that Speaks Volumes

Upon arrival, the striking facade is impossible to miss: a multi-coloured wall of old, recycled shutters. This isn’t just a piece of art; it’s a preview of the resort’s commitment to giving materials a second life. Inside, you’ll find sleek, minimalist design mixed with rich Balinese textures—wood and woven elements blending seamlessly with natural light and ocean views.

The lobby feels like stepping into a tropical art gallery, with pieces that provoke thought and invite you to consider how they were created. Everything here is designed with purpose, right down to the earthy, hand-made ceramics used throughout the property. And with no single-use plastics in sight, it’s clear they take sustainability seriously.

The Rooms: Eco-Luxe Comfort

Each room at Desa Potato Head embraces eco-luxe comfort in a uniquely Bali-inspired way. My room felt more like a sanctuary, where earthy tones and sustainably sourced furnishings created a calming, restorative vibe. Every aspect, from the bed linens to the toiletries, reflects Potato Head’s dedication to sustainability. For instance, their bath products are crafted in-house with natural, locally-sourced ingredients, and all are refillable—nothing disposable here.

Each morning, I woke up to the sounds of the ocean mingling with a gentle breeze from the nearby palms. The sun filtered softly through the wooden shutters, casting a warm glow that seemed to promise another perfect day in paradise.

Each room comes with a private bar, where you can mix your own cocktails.

Dining at Potato Head: Where Flavour Meets Conscious Choices

A huge part of the Potato Head experience is the food. Across the resort’s restaurants, they serve up an impressive menu rooted in local and organic produce. Kaum, the signature Indonesian restaurant, was a highlight, with dishes that beautifully capture the bold, diverse flavours of the archipelago. Meanwhile, Ijen, the on-site seafood restaurant, operates a zero-waste kitchen. They source their ingredients from nearby fishermen and serve everything on plates made from recycled materials.

The breakfasts were a daily treat: fresh tropical fruits, house-made yoghurts, and Bali’s renowned coffee. At Potato Head, even indulgence has a sense of responsibility—they balance the experience with conscious choices and sustainable practices, which makes every bite more satisfying.

The Beach Club: Where Bali’s Vibe Comes Alive

No stay here is complete without time spent at the Potato Head Beach Club. It’s a magnetic, social space with plenty of lounging options, from daybeds around the pool to spots on the sand facing the ocean. By day, it’s a haven of relaxation; by night, the atmosphere transforms into a lively scene with international DJs and sunset views that are truly unforgettable.

With a chilled coconut in hand and music flowing through the speakers, I soaked up the ultimate Bali vibe. It’s the perfect mix of relaxation and fun, and the beach club itself operates on the same zero-waste principles as the rest of the resort.

Art, Sustainability, and Wellness: A Holistic Experience

Beyond lounging and dining, Desa Potato Head offers a variety of workshops and activities that centre around wellness and sustainability. During my stay, I took part in a HIIT session, which used the Desa as a playground. I also had an amazing deep tissue massage in the spa, which was incredible.

Final Thoughts: More Than Just a Stay

Desa Potato Head is a beautiful blend of culture, luxury, and responsibility. It embodies the spirit of Bali and goes beyond the traditional hospitality model to offer guests an experience that’s memorable and meaningful. Each aspect of the resort is designed to minimise impact on the environment, while still providing all the comforts of a luxurious stay.

If you’re heading to Bali and want a place that’s as good for the soul as it is for the senses, Desa Potato Head should be at the top of your list. Here, you’ll find a perfect balance of relaxation, sustainability, and Balinese culture, wrapped up in one incredible stay.
