Stockholm is one of my favourite cities, and with its blend of modern elegance and historic charm, it's no wonder I keep returning. One of my favourite hotels is Bank Hotel, located right in the heart of the city. From the moment I stepped through its grand entrance, I knew I was in for something special. Here's my take on this luxury boutique hotel, and whether it lives up to the hype for a comfortable city escape.
Originally built in 1910, Bank Hotel was once the grand headquarters of the Södra Sverige Bank. Its impressive architecture reflects the opulence of the time, with stately marble columns and intricate detailing. After its transformation into a luxury hotel, Bank Hotel retained much of its historical charm while blending in sleek, contemporary touches. Walking through the halls, you can still feel the echoes of its storied past, now seamlessly woven into its modern identity as one of Stockholm’s finest hotels.
Rooms
The rooms were beautiful, albeit cozy. The bed was super comfortable.
We were delighted to see some fresh strawberries, perfectly salted Marcona almonds and a bottle of bubbles as a welcome gift.
Rooftop bar
The rooftop bar at Bank Hotel, called Le Hibou, offers one of the best views in Stockholm. Perched above the city, it’s the perfect spot to unwind with a cocktail while taking in panoramic views of the rooftops and waterways. The atmosphere is stylish yet relaxed, with comfortable seating and a menu that balances classic drinks with innovative new flavours.
I had a delicious version of one of my favourite cocktails - the Negroni.
Dining options
Besides Le Hibou, Bank Hotel offers a range of dining and drinking experiences, each with its own distinct character. Bonnie's, the hotel’s main restaurant, is set in the former bank’s grand atrium, where soaring ceilings and stunning décor create a luxurious atmosphere. The menu blends international influences with Swedish ingredients, offering a contemporary take on classic dishes. For a more intimate experience, Papillon serves up craft cocktails and small bites in a cosy, art deco-inspired setting, perfect for a relaxed evening.
Bonnie's serves both dinner and breakfast. The breakfast is served as a buffet with the additional option of ordering a la carte, and with a good mix of healthy (green juices, salads, smoked salmon) and decadent (cinnamon buns!).
Papillon is located in what was once the bank manager’s office, adding a layer of historical intrigue to its refined setting. The original architectural details, like the high ceilings and rich wood panelling, are still present, lending an air of old-world sophistication.
Summary & final thoughts - would I recommend?
Bank Hotel offers a truly memorable stay in the heart of Stockholm. Its unbeatable location puts you within walking distance of the city's best shopping, dining, and cultural attractions, while the hotel's beautiful interior, with its blend of historical grandeur and modern design, makes it a destination in itself. Whether you're enjoying a cocktail in the former bank manager's office or relaxing in one of the luxurious rooms, every detail feels thoughtfully curated. If you're looking for a sophisticated and convenient place to stay in Stockholm, Bank Hotel is an excellent choice.
